It was started in 2009 with the objective of tracking funds released under all plan schemes of the Government of India, and real-time reporting of expenditure at all levels of program implementation.
An online platform known as PFMS has been created to track, observe, and regulate the disbursement of public funds from the central government to the implementing agencies and the individuals who receive them, both at the state and central levels. It is composed of a Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, which allows for direct transfers of government subsidies, welfare payments, and other entitlements directly into the bank accounts of the intended recipients.

PFMS.NIC.IN Registration Process:
The system provides for the registration of the following categories of users:
- Programme Division.
- Drawing and Disbursing Officer (DDO) – both cheque drawing and non-cheque drawing..
- Pay and Accounts Office (PAO).
- Principal Accounts Office (Pr. AO).
- MIS Users.
Registration of users is mandatory for the system.
Process For Registration:
- Visit the official website of PFMS at https://pfms.nic.in/Users/UserRegistration.aspx.
- The registration form will open, here you have to select “User Type”, and enter the necessary details like “Department”, “Bureau”, “Division”, “First Name”, “Last Name”, “Designation”, “Email”, “Phone No”, “Mobile No”, “Login ID”, and click on the “Verify” button to verify the login Id availability.
- Now, you have to select the “Hint Question” from the drop-down list and enter the “Answer” and then “Confirm Answer”. This hint question will help at the time of resetting your password.
- After that, enter the Captcha Code and then click on the “Submit” button.
- Once you have submitted the correct information, the concerned Ministry shall approve the registration request. Then you can log into the system.
- The MIS Users should register through a separate link provided under the login menu on the home page.
Register For MIS Reports Users Using PFMS.NIC.IN:
- Open the official website of the Public Financial Management System at https://pfms.nic.in
- Click on the “Login” tab on the top of the right side of the home page.
- Now, click on the “Register MIS Reports Users” on the left side of the login page.
- The user details form will open, here you have to enter the necessary details and complete the registration form.
- Firstly, you must choose your “Type of User” and enter the “First Name”, “Last Name”, “Designation”, “Email Id”, “Phone No”, and “Mobile No”,
- And also should create a “Login Id”, which must contain a minimum of four characters, and a “Password”, which must contain a minimum of 8 characters and a maximum of 15 characters and it should be in Alphanumeric form with one special character.
- Now, “Confirm Password”, and select a “Hint Question” from the drop-down menu.
- Write the “Answer” for the hint question and “Confirm Answer” enter “Word Verification” and then click on the “Submit” button.
- After that, the concerned Ministry shall approve the registration request. Then you can log into the system.
How To Login Into PFMS.NIC.IN Portal?
- Go to the official website of the Public Financial Management System (PFMS).
- Now, click on the “Login” tab on the home page.
- The login window will appear, here enter your “User Name”, “Password” and “Word Verification Code” and then click on the “Log In” button.
- Then you will be logged into the Public Financial Management System (PFMS) portal successfully.
How To Reset PFMS.NIC.IN Login Password?
- Open the official website of the Public Financial Management System.
- Click on the “Login” tab on the home page.
- On the login page, click on the “Forgot Password? Option on the left side of the home page.
- Now, on the next screen, enter your “Login Id”, and “Word Verification” and then click on the “Continue” button.
- A “Security Question” will appear below the ‘Continue’ button.
- Enter the answer for the security question in the “Answer” textbox provided.
- Click the “Submit” button to receive the password and a message displaying “Password has been sent to your Email ID” appear on the “Forgot Password” window.
- In this way, the forgotten password will be retrieved on the user’s email Id.
Agency Registration Process On PFMS.NIC.IN Portal:
- Visit the official website of the Public Financial Management System (PFMS).
- Go to the “Login” tab on the home page and click on it.
- Now, click on the “Register Agency” option on the left side of the login page.
- The Agency Registration form will open, here you have to enter the necessary details.
- You must select “Type of Registration”, “Agency Name”, “Act/Registration Number”, “Date of Registration”, “Registering Authority”, State of Registration”, “TIN Number”, and “TAN Number”.
- And also enter the “Address 1, 2, & 3”, “City”, “State”, “District”, “Pin Code”, “Contact Person”, “Phone No”, “Alternate Phone/Mobile No”, “Email Id”, “Unique Agency Code”, and “Word Verification Code” and then click on the “Next” button.
- After clicking on the next button, you will be redirected to the “Scheme Bank Details” page.
- Now, here click the “Select Scheme” hyperlink. The Scheme pop-up window will appear. Select a scheme from this popup window.
- After that, you must enter “Bank Name”, “Branch Address”, “Branch Name”, “Account No”, and “Agency Name as per Branch”.
- Now, click on “Add Bank/Scheme” to add the Scheme/Bank Details for the Agency and select the checkbox to confirm the acceptance of the terms & conditions for the registration process.
- Once you have completed all the details, now click on the “Submit” button. Then saved successfully message will appear on the screen.
- And you will be navigated to the New Agency Registration home page. If the agency is receiving Funds for more than one scheme, more scheme bank details are added.
- In this way, registration for central government PSU agency is done successfully.
How To Know Your Payments On PFMS.NIC.IN Login Portal?
- Visit the Public Financial Management System (PFMS) Portal.
- Click on “Know Your Payments” on the home page.
- A new page will appear, here enter the first few characters of “Bank Name”, “Enter Account Number”, “Confirm Account Number”, and ‘Word Verification” and then click on the “Send OTP on Registered Mobile No” link.
- Now, you will receive an OTP to your registered mobile number and enter the OTP into the respective OTP field.
- Then you will know your payment details.
Track NSP Payment On PFMS.NIC.IN Portal:
- Open the Public Financial Management System’s official website.
- On the home page, click on the “Track NSP Payments” tab.
- The Track NSP Payments page will open, here enter the necessary details like “Bank Name”, “Account Number”, “NSP Application Id”, and “Word Verification” and then click on the “Search” button.
- Now, you will get the NSP Payment details on your screen.
How To Know MGNREGA FTO Status On PFMS.NIC.IN Portal?
- Go to the PFMS’s official website.
- On the left side of the home page, click on the “Know MGNREGA FTO Status (Rupee Symbol)” option.
- The next page will appear, here enter “FTO Name”, “Reference No”, or “Transaction No” and “Word Verification Code” and then click on the “Search” button.
- Then the MGNREGA FTO status will appear on the screen.
